To promote community empowerment, PODER has undertaken projects to educate the community so they may advocate for themselves and take the appropriate actions to become participants in decisions that ultimately affect their quality of life.
Nahui Ollin Climate Justice - Healthy Communities Project works with parents and community residents to address air, soil, and water quality issues and their impact on children's health. PODER also conducts workshops on various environmental health issues, including the health impacts of exposure to noise, electro- magnetic fields, and extreme heat, the Hazards Communications Standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), community/workplace hazards mapping of potential risks, and worker health and safety rights.
Young Scholars for Justice Project is dedicated to the development of youth and young adults of color to address education, environmental, economic, and social justice issues affecting them and ensure gender, racial and resource equity. The project promotes youth and young adult integration in all areas of PODER's program work.
TEAM (Technology, Education, Advocacy and Mobilization) project, seeks to narrow the digital divide for PODER board members and others in the community by providing them with technology and training.
Keepers of the Roy Guerrero Colorado River Park - PODER has established "Keepers of Roy Guerrero Colorado River Park", a friends of the park group to help monitor and insure that the park continues to develop in a way that will preserve the natural habitat of the wild life and the environment.
Oak Springs Water Quality and Preserve Project - Located at Airport Boulevard and Oak Springs Drive, the Oak Springs Water Quality and Preserve Project provides nearly 6 acres of green space, large trees, hundreds of native plant species, and a natural freshwater spring. Saved from destruction by PODER, community groups/organizations and the City of Austin, this area represents another success in beautifying and protecting East Austin and providing a nature area for the community to enjoy.
